Humble Yourself or Be Humbled

Updated: Dec 11, 2019

Being humble can be a struggle for some people. They put themselves on such a high pedestal that it’s hard for them to be in touch with reality. The thing is, we have to humble ourselves to get to our destined place or God will humble. I was watching a TD Jakes sermon that hit home for me. I have said this before; sometimes God will allow us to go through the same thing over and over again until we learn the lesson from it. We have to learn that lesson in order for us to get to our promised place. In his sermon, Bishop Jakes stated that if we don't break ourselves by letting go of people and things that aren't meant for us, God will break us. Sometimes we want to hold on to people and things that are not meant for us or meant only for a season. At what point do we stop hurting ourselves? I’ve been broken because I have refused to let some things go that either I wasn’t supposed to have or I wasn’t ready for.

The last few years’ experiences have humbled me beyond what I had ever expected. As person who wants things my way and when I want them but I've come to learn that's not how life works. God had to allow life to break me to get my attention. God did not break me to hurt me but God broke me so that I can get to my promised place and receive all that is assigned to me. In my broken moments, I was able to gather up a faith that I did not even know that I had. "And we know that all things work together for the good of those that love the Lord and are called according to his purpose." (Romans 8:28)

God is using me! My evolution from brokenness to wholeness is what God is going to show people about my life. I’ve come to a place where I have realized that my life is not my own, it's Gods. I have been called to shine my light for all to see. I've learned to let go of control in my life and it's been so freeing. When I decided to surrender, God showed up and showed out. God showed me that my obedience allows Grace to rain over my life. In this process of evolving God is taking me through, I'm learning that we can only control the things we have control over and everything else we have to just have faith. God is showing me so much about me and blessing me in ways that I could never have thought of. "God will do exceedingly abundantly above all that we could ever ask or imagine." (Ephesians 3:20)

Sometimes, failure will bring us to our knees. Obedience is a must; it's not easy but humbling yourself is better than having God humble you. God will break us until we humble ourselves and surrender to his will. When God breaks us, it is not only for us but it is for our children and the people connected to us. Let go of your pride and get what God has for you! We have to be intentional about our growth and evolution, getting to our promised place and fulfilling our purpose. We can't get in our own way by being desperate for something that is not ours or no longer fits our life. We have to know that what is for us will always be ours! Stop chasing; God will send you what's yours. Break out of your comfort zone and stop trying to do things your way and in your own strength. When God has a mission and a purpose for your life, you can't take everyone with you. So don't allow for anything to hinder you from evolving and moving forward in your life. Your destiny is right in front of you, take hold of it!
